Swyfft insurance: Ratings and reviews
Currently available in five states, Swyfft Insurance is among a new wave of insurtech startups trying to disrupt the insurance industry. The company uses data-driven “patented analytical methods” to get real-time quotes for homeowners insurance by analyzing threats specific to that address.
It’s important to note that Swyfft Insurance is not technically an insurance company. The company is a managing general agent that partners with other companies — namely Clear Blue Insurance — to sell policies. Since the company is relatively new, some of the ratings used in this review are those of Swyfft's partner company, Clear Blue Insurance. Read on to find out how Swyfft Insurance stacks up against the competitors and whether or not the company is the right option for you.

Is Swyfft a good insurance company?
The majority of The Zebra's review incorporates how well Swyfft scores in terms of customer service. In order to determine that we looked at the following third-party ratings. The company is too small to be reviewed by many major ratings agencies, so we found alternative sources to provide a clearer picture of what customers can expect.
Complaint Index: Above Average
- The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) receives Above Average customer complaints for Swyfft's partner company Clear Blue Insurance[1]
Financial Strength: A- (Excellent)
- Swyfft's partner company Clear Blue Insurance received an A- (Excellent) financial strength rating from A.M. Best for its ability to pay out claims[2]
Better Business Bureau Reviews: 3.65/5
- The Better Business Bureau rates Swyfft relatively highly at 3.65/5[3]
The Zebra Customer Satisfaction Survey
Alongside third-party ratings, we like to include results from our own customer survey. Feedback from real customers indicated which auto insurance companies are the best in multiple categories. However, as Swyfft is a homeowners and commercial lines carrier, we did not collect any data on Swyfft.
Because Swyfft is a newer home insurance company, there is very little public information about their rates. Your initial quote is based on a small amount of personal information, though it does offer you a chance to detail how many prior claims you have had. Swyfft primarily uses your home address, factoring in coverages that are unique to your locale.
For instance, homes in hurricane-prone areas list a hurricane deductible while properties in Texas have wind/hailstorm deductibles. You can choose the percentage of your hurricane or windstorm deductible, which will modify your quote in real-time. The site also allows you to select the amount for your deductible for standard perils.
Discounts offered
Swyfft doesn’t advertise insurance discounts. However, the interface allows policyholders to customize the policy to more appropriately reflect their home’s features. An on-screen cost estimator allows you to see how certain features can save you money in real-time.
Below are some of the home features that could allow you to save money:
- Fire-resistive construction
- Certain roof-types
- Hurricane-wind rated roof covering (where applicable)
- Central burglar alarm
- Sprinkler system
- Central fire alarm system
- Living in a gated community
- Water-protective devices (auto shut-off valves/alarms)
- Garage type

What types of coverage does Swyfft offer?
Home insurance is the primary product offered by Swyfft Insurance. The company's emphasis is single-family homes in particular. While Swyfft does offer coverage for second homes, the company does not insure second homes that are rented to others. Coverage options found in most standard plans are available from Swyfft, the amounts of which are fully customizable. Standard homeowners insurance policies include dwelling value, other structures, personal property, loss of use, personal liability and medical expenses.
Swyfft also allows you to tailor a number of other coverage types, some of which are specific to your part of the country. Other common endorsements that are also offered by other home insurance providers:
- Additional replacement cost
- Sinkhole coverage
- Personal injury
- Enhanced personal property coverage
- Identity fraud coverage
Swyfft insurance review: Summary
With a technology focus, Swyfft provides a smooth interface that allows for almost endless customization when searching for quotes. However, they only offer coverage in a few states and even then availability isn't guaranteed. Furthermore, there isn't a lot of information out there about the company, which could be offputting to many.
After our review, The Zebra concludes that Swyfft should be considered only in certain scenarios, predominantly when your home is in a high-risk area and you are unable to find many coverage options.
Methodology — how The Zebra reviews insurance companies
The team of insurance experts at The Zebra considers the company's standing in five main categories to come up with an overall rating. These metrics are weighted according to importance and are detailed below:
- Price (20%): Using the base profile detailed below, we compared the company's average rate with the national average. If it surpassed this average, we gave a lower rating; if it fell below, we awarded a higher rating.
- Coverage (20%): The highest-scoring companies offer a variety of coverage options, including bundling options, roadside assistance, telematics, beyond-basic coverage levels, and a variety of other coverage types.
- Customer service (30%): We averaged ratings from JD Power, the NAIC complaint index to come up with a rating for the company's customer service. In instances when a company is not rated, we may use alternative rating agencies such as the Better Business Bureau and Trust Pilot.
- Financial strength (10%): We use AM Best to determine a company's financial standing. In some cases when a company is not rated by AM Best, we may use an alternative measure such as Demotech.
- The Zebra's Customer Satisfaction Survey (20%): The Zebra conducts an annual survey measuring customer satisfaction for many of the top insurance companies with the goal of ranking both the best auto insurance companies and best home insurance companies. Read more below.
For our auto insurance review, we analyzed more than 83 million insurance rates spanning every U.S. ZIP code using a sample user profile: a 30-year-old single male driver with a Honda Accord, good credit and full coverage at these levels:
- $50,000 per person/$100,000 per incident for bodily injury liability
- $50,000 per incident for property damage liability
- $500 deductibles for collision and comprehensive coverage
For our home insurance review, rates are based on a sample user profile: a 45-year-old married homeowner living in a 2,500-square-foot single-story home built in 2011 with these coverage levels:
- $200,000 for the dwelling
- $20,000 for other structures
- $100,000 for personal property
- $100,000 for personal liability
- $1,000 deductible
These sample premiums are dynamic and automatically refresh whenever the newest data is made available.
To generate pricing for particular rating factors, we adjusted this profile based on common pricing factors used by major car insurance companies. These factors include credit score, coverage level and others.
For The Zebra's Customer Satisfaction Survey, findings are based on an online quantitative survey of 4,134 current U.S. auto and home insurance customers, with Census-balanced sampling by age, gender and region. Categories with n=<20 responses are considered insufficient sample size and are not reported. This survey was developed by The Zebra and executed by independent research firm Maru/Blue in 2023.
